Julia Bonk is a former German parliamentarian who was born on January 29, 1982, in Chemnitz, East Germany. She began her political career as a member of the PDS, the radical-left successor party to the communist SED that had ruled East Germany. In 2006, Bonk was elected to the regional parliament of Saxony as a member of The Left Party. She was subsequently elected to the German federal parliament, the Bundestag, in 2009.
During her time in office, Bonk was known for her work on progressive issues such as women's rights, immigration policy, and civil liberties. She was a vocal critic of the government's surveillance programs and advocated for greater transparency and accountability in government. However, her political career was cut short in 2013 when she resigned from the Bundestag following allegations that she had maintained contacts with extremist far-left and anarchist groups.
Following her resignation, Bonk continued to be involved in political activism and has been associated with various leftist organizations and causes. She has also worked as a freelance journalist and translator. Today, she lives in Berlin and remains active in left-wing politics.
